Abstract

The article examines the evolution of teacher training in Poltava Province during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, revealing the historical preconditions, institutional structures, and pedagogical tendencies that determined the professionalization of education in the region.

The study identifies and systematizes key stages in the development of pedagogical institutions in Poltava Province, focusing on the activities of teacher seminaries, gymnasiums, pedagogical courses, and institutes for noble maidens.

A special emphasis is placed on the humanization and feminization of pedagogical education, the formation of curricula integrating moral, psychological, and methodological disciplines, and the role of educators.

The results of this study enrich the historiography of Ukrainian education and provide a foundation for understanding the traditions that influenced the modernization of teacher training in Ukraine today.
