The professional self-determination of students is one of the main areas of educational work in general secondary schools, which is focused on preparing them for a conscious choice of profession and determining their place in society. Physics teachers should make the most of their subject to correctly and consciously manage students' professional self-determination in the field of "man-technology". The practical state of development of the problem is investigated through a survey of physics teachers: 132 physics teachers of general secondary schools and out-of-school education institutions (regional branches of the Junior Academy of Sciences) aged 24 to 65 years and with teaching experience from 1 to 42 years. According to the results of the questionnaires, it was found that in addition to objective difficulties (lack of the necessary material and technical base – physical equipment, reagents for experiments, etc., lack of a physical profile in general secondary schools, etc.), teachers are aware of the difficulties that can be overcome through targeted, specially organized work in the system of postgraduate education: mastering special courses within professional development courses; thematic training in the intercourse period; thematic seminars in the intercourse period; methodological recommendations for working with students. The analysis of the survey results shows that teachers are aware of the importance of managing students' professional self-determination and the need for special training in such management in the postgraduate education system.
