Peculiarities of Teaching Students Number Systems and Information Coding

Abstract

The paper investigates the difficulties that complicate the mastering of the topic "Number Systems. Information Coding" and suggests ways to prevent them. We have identified the problems of teaching students the topics "Number Systems and Information Coding": mechanical memorization; calculations; short time to study the topic; and lack of awareness of the importance of the topic. To prevent difficulties, we offer a series of author's lessons (lecture-travel, lesson-workshop, lessons for consolidation of knowledge, skills, and abilities). The study confirmed the importance of studying the topic without a clear distinction between theory and practice; taking into account individual psychophysiological characteristics of students, the level of their previous training; the effectiveness of using tests, oral questioning, and the methods of "letter to a friend", "flash cards", and "associative bush". The issue of developing a system of practice-oriented tasks for studying the topic "Number Systems. Information Coding", as well as the problem of implementing interdisciplinary connections between mathematics and computer science based on this topic.
